What this doesn't address is the motives behind the DOGE operation. A key one is likely an intention to replace fired workers with AI--with unrealistic notions of how soon it could be ready to even do a half-assed job, which is likely good enough for the elite--most of the workers are doing things that benefit the poor and middle-class This is self-interest on Musk's part as he has an AI company but it's also an excuse to offer the public--we don't need all these elite white-collar workers, we can just replace them with automation and save you tax money. Other motives are self-interest too--cutting his own taxes, and ending federal investigations into several of his companies--those don't get pointed out enough. This administration is rife with conflict-of-interest and corruption, which needs to be relentlessly exposed.
“…and the Food and Drug Administration is under fire.“ I want to send these assholes copies of “The Jungle,” by Upton Sinclair. Just like vaccines, we take food safety for granted because most of us don’t remember a time when a meat packing employee could boil to death in a vat of tallow and the company could still sell it to the public.
Let’s celebrate Federal Workers this May Day! As a retired Fed, hats off to those who continue to serve, those who resigned with honor and the hundreds of federal workers who are whistleblowers.
What a good and helpful article! C

They know. They don’t care. If you’re very wealthy your food will be safe. It’s a very long book but Jane Mayer describes this in Dark Money.
