With Musk, people aren’t just investing in a mythology, they’re investing in a right-wing extremist ideology. How else can you explain almost no one talking about him encouraging and inciting more violence in Belfast, just the day before his massive IPO? And it having zero effect on his IPO? Investment in far right enterprises is at an all-time high and imo THAT is the real story.

Little bit of a sidebar: how does Thomas Friedman still have a career? Do people actually still take him seriously?

And the epilogue of 12th of June:

“The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees. The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.” (Retrieved from Anthropic’ Statement on the US government directive to suspend access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5).

“We suspect that perfect jailbreak resistance is not currently possible for any model provider.”

How is that? The most powerful model in the world is apparently not so powerful.

The question is did Anthropic overplay their hand or is the Trump administration playing favourites by boosting their "dangerous model" rhetoric? Have they forgiven Anthropic for kind of saying no to them?

Gary Marcus's latest post points to the administration doing this to benefit OpenAI and to get revenge for Anthropic's very basic limitations on how the Department of Defence could use its models.

We’ll never know. I’m afraid we are just sitting on the fence commenting only the noise gatekeeped to reach us, while not seeing anything from inside about the real stakes. It is just a new layer of post-truth media entertainment. Only this time it is rewriting the very infrastructure and society’s fabric while all we have is the old and ineffective electional mechanisms.

How is this not galloping journalistic malpractice by Thomas Friedman?

”We knew it was getting amazingly good at enabling anyone, no matter how computer literate, to write software code.”

”BUY”. It’s called BUYING software code. It’s not a bloody hammer, it’s outsourced automation.

That serious outlets not only pump the hype but keep backup singing this ridiculous gaslighting ”just a tool” spiel is some Twilight Zone shit

It was quite a week in this world. I happened to notice Oprah did a long youtube episode on the dangers of AI chatbots, just as New Yorkers clamored (unsuccessfully) to keep them out of schools. @47 the victim Alan says he now helps people realize "they hallucinate all over the place. They're constantly getting things wrong" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6lVgNfp_ps&t=1668s Helen Toner explains our lawmakers are "getting bullied" to have as little regulation as possible.

It's only 7:24 A.M., and I am STUFFED, after reading this feast of delicious prose...which I will now be forced to inflict on all my friends again, there's so much good stuff in it.

I feel like this one needs a quick revision to take into account the U.S. government‘s directive regarding Mythos and Fable.
