The worst (?) part is how they sell it as being for our own good. That it will provide more safety, when we all know it is about control, monetization, and weaponizing our lives for profit. Larry Ellison claimed that surveillance will ensure "citizens are on their best behavior". We are entering another very dark chapter in technology vs humanity. Using tech to keep tabs on people is not what anyone wants, except those who can profit off it.

On the collection and storage of data of the nation sentence–I can’t shake the sinking feeling that there will eventually be instruments set up to sell/share this data worldwide. None of us will be immune. On that summery note, have a great break and rest!

The universities only have themselves to blame for their impending shrinkage, and in some cases, demise. They could have spent the last decade opposing the West's descent into authoritarianism, as bastions of free thought. Instead, they were cheerleading for cultural revolution, and that's exactly what they've got now. The vanguard are always first against the wall when the strong man takes over.

After reading about the huge investments in border-facing surveillance technology, all I could think was “Festung America”. Maybe the Nazis will win the war, with the US on their side this time.

Have a good holiday, and try not to think about this stuff for a few days.

The Third Reich had porous borders because its territory was constantly expanding, until the Russians put a stop to that at a cost of millions of their citizens' lives. The border wall is a Chinese invention, copied by the Romans and East Germany.
