I suspect the only thing that would fix politics in California (and Texas for that matter) for the state to be broken up into six smaller states.

VC Tim Draper took a crack at it several years ago; presumably to shatter Democratic control over all those votes, but I suspect it would have had the opposite effect of what he wanted; instead driving the Senate and executive branches further to the left.

They could start by protecting us from the incredible power requirements of AI.

Taxing that specific usage can properly cost the AI is standing in our way of reducing our overall energy usage.

Thank you for being another voice for *actual* AI safety rather than this x-risk sci-fi horseshit. The one thing I would push back on is the idea that "Center for AI Safety" is even itself really aimed at producing this kind of legislation. Rather, they're the controlled opposition wing of a PR campaign whose real goal is convincing us that AI is powerful enough to pose the kinds of threats the CAIS is purporting to "protect" us against. It is not, and doesn't stand to be any time soon.
